CISB Study Plan for Working Bankers: 4 Weeks, One Book

It is 8:40 pm. The branch closed late, the day-end mismatch took an hour, and you still have a certification syllabus full of hardware, networks, audit trails and security standards. If that is your evening, you do not need a motivational speech. You need a CISB study plan that assumes you are tired, that fits into ninety minutes on weekdays and a longer block on Sunday, and that tells you exactly what to open tonight.

This article gives you that plan. Read it first, adapt the days to your own shifts, and use whatever material you already have. Later we will look at how the CISB book fits inside it, because the plan is built around its chapter order.

Why most CISB attempts stall in week two

The Certified Information System Banker paper is not hard because any single idea is difficult. It is hard because it is wide. In one sitting you are expected to move from how a bank's processing infrastructure is laid out, to what the IT Act means for an online transaction, to how an incident is reported and managed. A banker from a pure operations background meets many of these terms for the first time.

The usual failure pattern is predictable. Week one goes well because everything is new and you are motivated. Week two collides with month-end, a staff shortage or a family function, you miss three evenings, and the plan quietly dies. A good CISB study plan is therefore not the one with the most hours. It is the one that survives a missed week.

Three design rules we will use

  • One chapter per sitting. A finished chapter feels like progress and is easy to resume after a gap.
  • Questions straight after reading. Memory fades fast; ten questions within the hour show you what actually stuck.
  • Slack built in. Every week has a catch-up day so that one bad evening does not break the chain.

What you are actually studying: the shape of the syllabus

Before you plan days, plan the map. The CISB book on this store is organised into eight modules over 20 chapters and 143 pages, with 190 questions placed at the ends of the chapters. Knowing the shape tells you where the weight sits.

What is inside the CISB book: 143 pages, 20 chapters, 190 MCQs across Modules A to H
What is inside: 143 pages, 20 chapters, 190 MCQs, eight modules (A to H).
  • Module A, Technology in Banks has six chapters: banking environment and technology, processing infrastructure, accounting information systems, information organisation and management, technology risk, and the audit function.
  • Module B, Technology: System, Development, Process, Implementation has four: hardware architecture, software platforms, the system development life cycle and computer networks.
  • Module C, Business Continuity is one chapter on continuity and disaster recovery planning.
  • Module D, Overview of Legal Framework is one chapter on online transactions, trends and legal implications.
  • Module E, Security and Control Standard in Banking has two chapters on security risk, architecture and management, and on controls, quality, security and continuity standards.
  • Module F, Securities Policies, Procedure and Controls has three: developing and reviewing security policies, compliance and incident management, and network security.
  • Module G, Information Security and IS Audit has two: security administration and operational procedures, and information systems audit.
  • Module H, Regulatory and Standards Updates has one chapter of post-cutoff dated updates.

Notice that Modules A and B together hold ten of the twenty chapters. That is your foundation. If you are comfortable with them, the security modules (E, F, G) become far easier because they keep referring back to the same infrastructure and the same audit vocabulary.

The 4-week CISB study plan, day by day

The plan below assumes about 75 to 90 minutes on weekdays and a longer block on weekends. Where a chapter is heavy, the plan lets it spill into the catch-up slot rather than forcing you to rush. With 190 questions across 20 chapters, you will meet roughly nine or ten questions per chapter on average, so the MCQ column below is a target, not a promise for every chapter.

Treat the table as the CISB study plan skeleton. Shift whole rows by a day or two when work eats an evening; just never delete the question practice.

How to use a weekday evening

Keep each weekday sitting to the same shape. Spend about 45 minutes reading one chapter with a pencil, 20 minutes on its questions without looking back, and 10 minutes writing down every wrong answer in one line. The one-line note is the most valuable part. Those notes become your last-week revision sheet, and they are far more personal than any summary.

On weekends, do two things only: finish what slipped during the week, and revise the previous week's wrong-answer notes. Do not try to read three new chapters on a Sunday. Tired heroics in week one are the main reason people vanish by week three.

Where the CISB book fits into this plan

Everything above works with any decent study material. Here is how the printed book sits in it, by its facts. The Certified Information System Banker book is a 2026 edition of 143 pages with 20 chapters and 190 questions, arranged in the same Modules A to H order the plan follows. Because the questions come at the end of each chapter, the read-then-test rhythm is already built into the layout, and you can work offline on a train, at lunch or in a quiet corner of the branch.

Beyond the chapters, the book lists two extras: 30 case studies carrying 120 questions, and 5 mega tests carrying 500 questions. In the plan, case studies are best used in Week 3 and 4 once the concepts are in place, and the mega tests belong to the last week as your timed practice.

A word on price: the book is listed at ₹725 against an MRP of ₹2,398, and prices may change, so treat the book page as the current source. Check the free sample first. If the writing style does not suit you, nothing in this plan stops you from using other material.

The four-step study loop behind the plan

Strip away the dates and the CISB study plan is a loop you repeat for every chapter. Learn it once, and you can rebuild the schedule after any disruption.

Four step CISB study loop: read, attempt MCQs, fix mistakes, mega test
The loop: read one chapter, attempt its MCQs cold, log mistakes, then test under time.
  1. Read one chapter, once, with a pencil. Underline definitions and anything that looks like a list, such as stages of the SDLC or types of controls. Do not make fair copies of notes; that is how a week disappears.
  2. Attempt the MCQs cold. Close the book. A wrong answer found tonight is cheap; the same wrong answer found in the exam is expensive.
  3. Log each mistake in one line. Write the concept, not the option letter. This is your future revision sheet.
  4. Test under time. Once all modules are done, switch to timed sets and the mega tests so that speed and stamina catch up with knowledge.

Make the tricky modules easier

Three areas trip up non-technical bankers. For networks and hardware in Module B, draw the picture of a branch connecting to the data centre; a rough sketch teaches more than a page of definitions. For the legal chapter in Module D, keep a small table of which law or concept governs which type of online transaction. For incident management in Module F, think of it as a sequence: detect, contain, report, recover, review. If you can say the sequence aloud on the way to work, you have it.

Revision week and exam-hall habits

In the final week you should not be learning new material. Spend the first two days rereading only your one-line mistake notes. Then take full timed sets, review every error and go back to the related page. Repeat. If a module still feels weak by Day 24, give it one extra evening instead of spreading panic across all eight modules.

Two honest limits. First, a book alone does not give you exam-hall speed; you must pair it with timed practice, and the free mock tests at iibf.store/tests are a sensible place to start. Second, regulatory details change. Module H exists exactly because updates arrive after printing, so before the upcoming exam cycle, check the official schedule, syllabus notes and circulars on the IIBF website rather than relying on any printed page, ours included.

If you also want free reading material while you build the habit, browse the free PDFs, or look at the other titles in the book store if you are preparing for more than one paper. The best CISB study plan is the one you open again on Monday after a missed weekend. Start with Chapter 1 tonight, finish its questions, and write down your first three mistakes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I really finish the syllabus in four weeks while working full time?

For many bankers, yes, if you commit to roughly 75 to 90 minutes on weekdays and a longer weekend block. The syllabus is 20 chapters over 143 pages in this book, so one chapter per sitting is realistic. If your branch is under heavy load, stretch the plan to five or six weeks rather than skipping the question practice.

Which modules should I give the most time?

Modules A and B hold half of the chapters and build the vocabulary that the security modules later depend on, so protect that time. After that, give extra evenings to whichever module your own mistake notes show as weakest.

Is the book enough, or do I need mock tests too?

The book gives you chapter-wise content, 190 questions and the listed case studies and mega tests. Still, exam-hall speed comes from timed practice, so add mock tests and keep checking the IIBF website for the official syllabus and schedule.

What if I miss a whole week?

Do not restart. Shift every remaining row of the table forward by the days you lost, drop the catch-up slot once, and continue with the next unread chapter. The loop of read, attempt, log and test works from any starting point.
