CAIIB ABM PYQ Practice: Statistics and HRM Questions 2026
Part 2 of the marathon covers the front half of the syllabus, and it is the half most candidates get wrong about. CAIIB ABM PYQ practice on Modules A and B looks easier than the credit and compliance material that follows, so it gets postponed — and then it quietly costs twenty marks. Statistics is formula work you either drilled or did not, and Human Resource Management is deceptively fine-grained. This piece sets out what each module actually asks, works an example, and turns CAIIB ABM PYQ practice into something more useful than a score out of fifty.

Module A: Statistics is a formula paper wearing a theory costume
Module A opens with the definition of statistics, its importance and limitations, and data handling, then moves through the measures that everything else is built on. The examiner's habit here is consistent: a short data set, one question, one formula.
That consistency is the good news. Unlike the credit modules, where the same facts can be attacked from four directions, statistics questions have a narrow answer space. If you know which measure is being asked for and you can compute it without arithmetic slips, the mark is yours in under a minute.
The bad news is that partial knowledge earns nothing. Knowing what standard deviation means will not get you through a question that wants the coefficient of variation. Recognising a distribution as skewed will not answer a question asking you to quantify the skew. Module A rewards the formula sheet, not the intuition.
Practical approach: build a single page with every formula in the module, written in the notation the question paper uses, and revise that page rather than the chapter. Then solve, not read. A worked example of the trap
Take five branch figures for monthly casa growth, in per cent: 4, 8, 6, 10, 12. The mean is 40 divided by 5, so 8.
Deviations from the mean are minus 4, 0, minus 2, 2 and 4. Squaring gives 16, 0, 4, 4 and 16, summing to 40. Dividing by 5 gives a variance of 8, and the standard deviation is the square root of 8, roughly 2.83.
Now the question that actually appears: which of two branches shows greater relative variability? That needs the coefficient of variation, which is the standard deviation divided by the mean, times 100 — here 2.83 over 8, giving about 35.4%. A candidate who stops at the standard deviation has done 90% of the work and scored zero, because the comparison the question wanted is only meaningful in relative terms.
That gap between the computation you performed and the one the question asked is the single most common statistics error in this paper. Read the last line of the question first. It is a habit worth building deliberately.
Module B: Human Resource Management, and why it is not free marks
Module B covers the fundamentals of human resource management, and candidates walk into it expecting general knowledge to carry them. It does not, because the questions are drawn from a specific framework with specific terminology, and the distractors are built from adjacent terms in that same framework.
The pattern to watch is the near-synonym. Two options will both describe something plausible about development, or motivation, or appraisal, and only one matches the term the syllabus defines. General reasoning cannot separate them. Only having read the actual definitions can.
There is a structural point too. Human Resource Management is both a module inside ABM and a full elective paper in its own right, one of five electives alongside Rural Banking, Information Technology and Digital Banking, Risk Management, and Central Banking. If you have chosen HRM as your elective, Module B is revision you are doing anyway and should be near-free marks. If you have not, resist the pull of the elective textbook — the ABM module is narrower, and depth beyond it is time you do not have.

How to run the practice session
The paper is 100 objective questions for 100 marks in two hours, online, with no negative marking, and some CAIIB subjects include numerical questions where no options are given and the answer must be keyed in. For a statistics-heavy module that last clause deserves respect: without options to check yourself against, an arithmetic slip is simply a wrong answer.

Notice the last row, because it is the one that should change your evening. Re-reading a statistics chapter is close to worthless; re-reading an HRM definition list genuinely works. Treating both modules with the same study method is why the front half of ABM underperforms.
Schedule accordingly. Statistics in the morning, when arithmetic is cleanest, and HRM definitions in the evening, when reading is all you have left. Build a formula sheet, solve rather than read, check the last line of every statistics question before computing, and treat HRM terminology as vocabulary to be learned rather than intuited.
